About Rapid Mail

The Rapid Mail client utility is as a quick and easy utility for sending simple mail messages. Because of its limited, yet functional, operation Rapid Mail is very small and loads into memory very quickly.

Installation

Rapid mail does not require any special setup program to be run on the workstation.

Simply run the appropriate version of Rapid Mail - RMAIL16.EXE for Windows 3.x clients or RMAIL32.EXE for Windows 95 and NT clients.

The first time Rapid Mail is loaded you will be asked if you want to configure the options. These options must be set before mail can be sent

Using Rapid Mail

To send a message, type the recipients e-mail address in the 'To' box, add a subject to the 'Subject' line, enter a message and click 'Send'.

If you want to attach files to your message, click the 'Attach' button and select the files you want to add to the message.

If you have configured a default domain under options, simply typing in the recipients name is sufficient for the 'To' line. For example, if your default domain is company.com and you want to send a message to rsmith@company.com simply type rsmith and Rapid Mail will fill out the rest.

Configuring Rapid Mail

Rapid Mail must be configured before it will allow you to send e-mail messages. The required fields are your name, your e-mail address, and your outbound mail server.

Normally you would set the Default Domain to your own company domain which facilitates quick sending of mail to other users in your organisation.

Using Configuration Files

Rapid mail can be run with an optional configuration file. To do this, run the Rapid Mail program and specify the path to the configuration file.

For example, create a file called RMAIL.CFG in the F:\PUBLIC directory and run Rapid Mail with the line RMAIL32 RMAIL.CFG.

This will tell Rapid Mail to overwrite any registry settings with those stored in the config file.

The parameters available in the configuration file are:	Parameter	Value

	Default Domain	Text String
	SMTP Server	IP Address
	SMTP Port	IP Port (default=25)
	Minimize	Yes or No

Each line reads: Parameter=Value

The value may optionally contain an environment variable enclosed in % marks.

Sample Rapid Mail configuration file

Full Name=%FullName%
EMail Address=%LoginName%@ourdomain.com
Default Domain=ourdomain.com
SMTP Server=192.168.0.1

Setup Tips

It is useful to set up a short cut key for Windows to run Rapid Mail so that access does not require tedious menu selections and program changes.

In Windows 3.x, create an icon in Program Manager for RMAIL16.EXE and select the new icons properties. Add a shortcut key sequence to the icon such as CTRL-SHIFT-S. Now wherever you are, just press this key sequence to send a quick e-mail.

In Windows 95, create a shortcut to RMAIL.EXE either on your desktop or in your Start menu. Select the properties for this shortcut and select the 'Shortcut' tab. Add a shortcut key sequence such as CTRL-SHIFT-S. Now wherever you are, just press this key sequence to send a quick e-mail.
