About Mailbox Manager

Mailbox manager provides an easy way to view the current state of your e-mail system. This tool combines some of the features of the i-Mail Admin utility and direct access to the i-Mail directory structure into a single visual tool allowing easy manipulation and update of i-Mail user accounts.

Requirements

Windows 95/98 or NT
TCPIP protocol
Access rights to the i-Mail Users directory.

For i-Mail ADS, additional access to the domain directories is required for each domain that needs to be managed.

Installation

Mailbox Manager does not require any special setup, simply run MBoxMgr.exe. Select Options from the File menu and enter the base directory for your i-Mail system.

Using Mailbox Manager

Mailbox Manager displays the current status of all mailboxes in the i-Mail directory structure. This view can be limited to certain mailboxes and specific domains for i-Mail ADS.

To limit the scope of the displayed domains, select the desired domain from the 'Domains in view' list box. Selecting (all) shows all domains in the system. Selecting (primary) shows only mailboxes in the imail\users folder and selecting a specific domain will display the users from that independent domain (ADS version).

Mailboxes may be displayed in any of four states.

This mailbox has no mail messages
This mailbox has mail
This mailbox has more mail than is considered normal
This mailbox has mail that is considered older than usual

The mailbox state images give an indication of the status of each mailbox. This will inform you of problems such as users who no longer exist on your network, or users who have not cleared their mail for some time.

Use the 'Filter' menu to limit the display to certain mailbox states. If you just want to see which mailboxes have outdated mail, uncheck the other three options.

To see what is in a mailbox, double click the icon and the mailbox entries will be displayed. Individual mail messages can be removed if necessary.

Mailbox options include the i-Mail base directory which is the root of your i-Mail system on your server.

Specify the limits that are practical for your environment for displaying overdue and full mailboxes.

Mailboxes can be moved or deleted using Mailbox Manager.

To copy or move the messages from one or more mailboxes to another, highlight the mailboxes you want to move the messages from and mark them by pressing 'Ctrl-C'. A scissors symbol will appear marking the mailbox as selected and ready to copy. Repeat this for all mailboxes you want to copy or move. Then highlight the destination mailbox and press 'Ctrl-V'. Messages will be moved or copied to the destination. To cancel the copy operation press 'Esc'.

To delete mailboxes, select the mailboxes for deletion and press 'Ctrl-X'. A cross will appear next to the mailboxes. Repeat for each mailbox to delete. Now select 'Commit mailbox deletions' from the Edit menu to confirm deletetion of the mailboxes. This may take some time for a larger system as the mailboxes must be removed and the i-Mail database updated to reflect the removed mailboxes.
