Before you begin

Prior to installing your i-Mail system, you should plan your installation. This includes gathering information about your users and TCP/IP network configuration. If you will be connecting to the internet you will also require details from your service provider including the DNS name or IP address of their SMTP and/or POP3 servers.

Requirements

You will require the following equipment, software and installed systems before i-Mail can be successfully installed and run:

Installed and configured Novell NetWare 4 or 5 server with at least 2Mb free RAM. As a general rule, a NetWare 4 server running i-Mail should have 32Mb and a NetWare 5 server should have 64Mb.

TCP/IP installed and configured on the target file server.

A TCP/IP router configured and ready to connect to the internet if internet connectivity is required

At least 2Mb free hard disk space on the server for installation and as much disk space as you envisage your e-mail system taking based on type of mail and number of users.
A workstation running Windows 95/98 or Windows NT with a screen resolution of 800x600 or better for administering i-Mail.
The i-Mail installation disk or files.
Client workstations require the TCP/IP or compatible protocol and e-mail client software to connect to the i-Mail server.

Basic Installation Procedure

Log in to your NetWare server as Admin, Supervisor or equivalent and ensure you have a drive mapped to the SYS: volume and to the volume that you will be installing your i-Mail software.
Insert the i-Mail install disk and run INSTALL.EXE. Enter the full path to your SYSTEM directory and the full path to the directory where i-Mail is to be installed and click OK.
Run the administration program from the directory specified by the setup program and configure your system. See the Install Guide and Administration sections for more details.
Load i-Mail at the server with the syntax 'LOAD IMAIL imail_directory' (eg. LOAD IMAIL SYS:\IMAIL). See the i-Mail Server section for further detail.
