Logging Tab

Purpose

The logging tab is used for configuring i-Mail reporting. This can be used as an audit trail, for debugging problems in the mail system or simply for general interest.

Logging

Log events to system console

If this option is checked, all status messages will be echoed at the system console. This can be useful in conjunction with CONLOG.NLM for diagnosing problems by finding when NetWare errors are being reported in relation to i-Mail error messages.

Log to file

As the name implies, all events that are displayed in the i-Mail events window will be written to the file specified.

Include time stamp on log entries

Select this option if you want to know what time each recorded event happens.

Startup mode

Select the appropriate option for your requirements. Append to log is more useful for diagnosing mail problems.

Log level

Determines how much information is sent to the status window.

Auditing

Audit logs are stored in the audit subdirectory of i-Mail.

Enable auditing

Use this check box to turn auditing on or off. Auditing enabled status can only be changed by shutting down and restarting i-Mail.

E-Mail daily audit summary to

Specify a recipient for a daily summary of i-Mail events. These reports can be used to determine usage and requirements for your e-mail system and internet bandwidth.

Audited events

Specify the events you want to keep audit logs for.

Auditing storage method

Specify the type of files you want i-Mail to output from the audit logger. If you wish to use the indexed mode to conserve disk space or to provide easy relational database access, refer to the file audit.csv for item id names.

Date format

Self explanatory.

Audit file rollover method

Audit logs can either be kept or overwritten every seven days. In keep mode, audit log files are named by their date. In seven day mode, files are stored with names Mon through Sun.

Notes

The path to the log file must be specified in NetWare volume terms. The local drive mappings that you have set up on your workstation are unknown to i-Mail when it is run on the server.
